The English Department welcomes submissions of original writing from currently enrolled University of the Cumberlands students for its annual writing awards. Please review the guidelines below before submitting. 

In addition, please remove your name and any identifying information from your manuscript. Your contact information will be included on the forms only.

CREATIVE WRITING AWARD

ONE CNF ESSAY, ONE SHORT STORY, ONE NOVEL EXCERPT, ONE HYBRID/EXPERIMENTAL WORK,  OR 3-5 POEMS. THE ENTRY MUST HAVE BEEN COMPLETED IN A FALL 2024/SPRING 2025 ENGLISH COURSE.

CRITICAL WRITING AWARD

ENTRY MUST HAVE BEEN COMPLETED IN A FALL 2024/SPRING 2025 ENGLISH OR AMERICAN LITERATURE CLASS.

FRESHMAN WRITING AWARD

ALL ENTRIES MUST HAVE BEEN COMPLETED IN AN ENGLISH COMPOSITION I/ II CLASS FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR.

JUDGES FOR THE CONTEST WILL EVALUATE ENTRIES SOLELY ON THE BASIS OF LITERARY/ACADEMIC QUALITY. IF THE JUDGES FEEL THAT NO ENTRY HAS SUFFICIENT MERIT, THEY MAY CHOOSE NOT TO AWARD PRIZES.
